Making Sure Your Child’s Oral Health Is a Top Priority

Posted .

Children’s teeth require excellent oral care just as your own permanent, adult teeth do. To make sure their smile develops properly and fosters good oral health, there are things you can do to make sure their chompers thrive in Provo, Utah:

Step 1: It helps to use a child’s sized toothbrush to fit in their mouth and low-fluoride toothpaste to build strong teeth. Usually, the brush has smaller bristles and a specially formed handle. As far as the toothpaste goes, only use toothpaste for children. It’s also recommended to use a paste that has a flavor your child enjoys.

Step 2: To help your child enjoy the experience, make them comfortable and make brushing a fun experience. Place a pea-sized amount of toothpaste on the brush’s bristles and hold the toothbrush at a 45-degree angle to the gums. Next, scrub the front of the teeth with small, gentle circles. Once you are done, brush the insides of the teeth using the same motions. Finally, scrub the biting surfaces by moving the brush back and forth.

Step 3: After you are finished cleaning your little one’s smile make sure they spit the toothpaste into the sink and rinse with water. Then, reward them for doing such a great job. This could be praise, a hug, or whatever makes them feel good.

Be sure your child keeps up with recommended dental checkups and cleanings. Dr. Trace M. Lund and our team are pleased to share this journey with your family.
