Tips for Helping a Toddler Stay Calm in the Dental Chair

Posted .

Do you wish there was a way to help your toddler stay calm and relaxed in the dental chair? If so, our dentists, Dr. Trace Lund and Dr. Kevin Markham, are happy to grant your wish! Our dental team will do everything we can to help your toddler stay interested in the treatment and comfortable during their appointment. There are also things you can do as a parent to help your child. Those things are:

-Stay calm and collected. If you are relaxed, your child will likely be relaxed as well.

-Hold your child’s hand during the treatment. This can help them feel the comfort they need.

-Let them listen to music during their appointment. Just make sure the music is calming.

-Let them watch their favorite movie or show on a phone or tablet. This can keep their mind off the treatment.

-Avoid using scary words like shot, hurt or pain. Using scary words will likely make your child nervous, which will make them feel uncomfortable and anxious in the dental chair.
